Logged time values can be easily corrected if need be. A more detailed explanation of the functions listed here, can be found in the section Adjust Time Values in the INTERACT Help
.
Correct Single Time Values
You can manually enter time values
▪Select the corresponding Event in your data-file.
▪Click inside the Onset or Offset field.
▪Press RETURN to switch into edit mode.
▪Type the required value into that field.
Drag & Drop based Corrections
If the video is NOT already positioned at the new correct position:
▪Double-click on the time code to be corrected in order to position the video at that point in time.
▪Change the video position to the required position, using any of the available Multimedia Controls.
▪Drag the time code value from the Time Code Field on top of the logged time value that needs to be corrected.
TIP:Instead of dragging with the mouse, you can use two keyboard shortcuts for those time code corrections:
Press CTRL+1 to change the start time of the selected line and CTRL+2 to change the end time of that same line.
Keyboard controlled corrections
It is also possible to make time correction without leaving the keyboard, also during a coding session:
▪Press F10 or F11 to rewind the video a couple of frames, until the correct position is reached.
▪To enter the current time as the onset of the current Event, press CTRL+1.
▪To enter the current time as the offset of the current Event, press CTRL+2.
▪To start the video and continue coding as you used to do, press F7.
TIP:Take a look at Special keyboard shortcuts to learn more about the available control shortcuts of INTERACT.
Correct Multiple Time Values
If you want to move the position of multiple Events in one pass (maybe because you want to switch from video time to real life time information, or because the start point of your video has changed, or because you logged only single points in time but now want to convert those events into fixed length events) this can be done as well:
▪Select the Events to be moved, using the Edit – Find & Replace - Find
command.
▪Click Transform - Time Values - Shift
in the toolbar.
▪Enter the required shift into the upcoming dialog.
Use minus (-) to shift reverse.
▪Confirm twice.
INTERACT now recalculates all selected time values and add or subtract the value you entered.
Insert Date
To add a date, to already logged data, you can use the routine to correct multiple time values:
▪Select all Events that need the same date.
▪Click Transform - Time Values - Shift
in the toolbar.
▪Enter the required date into the onset and the offset field like this:
2014-06-30 00:00:00:00
Align with frames
Although the time information looks perfect to you, there might be tiny gaps and overlaps on millisecond level that become apparent when making use of especially the State-Space-Grid. Due to latencies caused by the video, the millisecond value might not be a clean multiplication of the duration of a single frame. To eliminate those hidden 'errors', one mouse click is sufficient.
▪Click Transform - Time Values - Align
to take care of any discrepancies.
Expand Events without Duration
If you have logged Events without duration, but now want to change those entries into Events that cover a particular duration, INTERACT can be of help again!
You can transform those Events so that they cover a specific period, related to the time it was logged (for example):
•Include the last 15 seconds before its time stamp was logged.
•Include the last 15 seconds as well as the next 30 seconds related to the available time value.
•Give them a fixed duration, starting from the time value logged.
The time values are, of course, just samples and can be replaced with any time value you need:
▪Click
Edit – Find & Replace - Find ![]()
▪Switch to the tab Timecode.
▪Select Mark all Events without duration.
▪Click OK to perform the search and to select all Events without duration.
▪Click Transform - Time Values - Shift
in the toolbar.
To cover a period that starts before the instance was logged:
▪Use minus (-) to shift reverse
▪Enter the required time shift into the Start time field of the upcoming dialog.
▪Leave at zero to keep the current time value as your new Start time.
To include a period that lasts beyond the logged time.
▪Enter the required time shift of your End time into the upcoming dialog.
▪Leave at zero to keep the current time value as your new End time.
▪Confirm twice.
Update DataSet Time Borders
Per default, INTERACT automatically expands the onset and offset of each DataSet. This way we ensure that all Events logged within a DataSet are represented in the Time Line Chart and considered in the statistics. If those values are not updated automatically:
▪Click Transform - Time Values - Set Borders
to update the onset and offset time information of all DataSets.
▪Details about working with fixed time borders can be found in Fixed DataSet Time Borders, in the INTERACT Help.
