Import SALT Files

The Systematic Analysis of Language Transcripts (SALT) software manages the process of eliciting, transcribing, and analyzing language samples.

To extend your transcriptions with video-based observations, you can easily import your SALT transcriptions into INTERACT and add any noticeable observations into the same data file:

Select Start - File - Open btn_open> Import - Import SALT file (*.slt) from the menu.

Select your *.slt file to be imported.

Confirm your selection with Open.

During the import, the original time information is imported as a reference and all utterances are turned into INTERACT Events and the corresponding speakers are extracted from the transcripts and turned into a Code in the column 'Speaker'.

The minute-by-minute time information from the original file is used, but because the length of the individual utterance lines is not documented in SALT, the length of the imported INTERACT Events depends on the number of utterance lines between two SALT time stamps (minute markers).

This ensures that the transcription lines are evenly spread over time.

Additionally, the original 'Static Data' within the SALT file is converted into INTERACT's Meta data.

Note: Should you feel the need to make changes to the original transcriptions based on your observations. You can export the edited data into a *.slt file again.
