Export SALT Files

The Systematic Analysis of Language Transcripts (SALT) software manages the process of eliciting, transcribing, and analyzing language samples. This speech analysis tool makes use of huge online speech data bases, allowing you to do a lot more than plain word counts.

INTERACT enables you to export your INTERACT data file into a SALT file.
This makes sense if you:

oImported original SALT files for more in-depth observations in INTERACT and did make changes to your original transcriptions, thus want to re-run your SALT analysis.

oCollected all observations and transcripts in INTERACT while using the SALT Transcription Conventions in your transcriptions.

Click Start - Current Document - Export Btn_ExportDocumentExport as SALT file.

Pick a location and name the resulting file for further use.

Note: During the export routine, INTERACT creates the SALT specific 'Minute marker' time information required by SALT. The accurate INTERACT timing per utterance (Event) is removed.

File Structure for SALT Export

In order to create a valid *.slt file, your INTERACT file needs to contain die following specifics:

oUse SALT specific transcription conventions when transcribing in the Transcript area.

oSpecify the SALT-specific Static Data as Meta data in INTERACT.

oInsert the speaker information per utterance; either as a Code inside a Class named 'Speaker' or insert the actor character followed by a dash in front of your transcription (e.g. 'M -'), as is the typical SALT annotation method.
